4 boys have brown hair because 1/2 of 24 is 12 and 1/3 of 12 is 4

Well, we start with 24 students (as stated). We take that and divide it by 2 for the amount of BOIs. We get 12. Only 1/3 of them have brown hair, so divide 12 by 3 and we get 4. Your answer is 4.
