If each sugar cube has a width, height, and length of 1/2 inches, then the volume of one sugar cube=width x length x height=1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/8 inches^3. If it can hold 24 cubes, 24 cubes x 1/8 inches^3 per cube = 24/8=3 inches^3
