For this case we have a function of the form [tex]y = f (x)[/tex], where:

[tex]f (x) = - x ^ 2 + 1[/tex]

We must evaluate the function for [tex]x = -3[/tex]

Then we have to replace:

[tex]f (-3) = - (- 3) ^ 2 + 1\\f (-3) = - 9 + 1[/tex]

Different signs are subtracted and the sign of the major is placed:

[tex]f (-3) = - 8[/tex]

ANswer:

[tex]f (-3) = - 8[/tex]
