The first Chinatown communities were formed in American cities in the late 1800s. From 1850 to the 1900s, the Chinatown in San Francisco served as a port of entry where Chinese immigrants entered. This is why the Chinatown in this city is the largest and one of the oldest. When the population grew, more Chinatowns were established in different cities in the US.
