The answer to this question is People will seek out supporting evidence for their beliefs.
The danger of this kind of thinking is that it makes people surround themselves with likeminded people, and perceive their group as the group that always right. This could led them unable to deal with opposing opinion that led to the formation of 'safe-spaces' that we often see in college campus.
