Soccer: 30 % of 40 = 12

⓵ You need to calculate what 30% of 40 students represents. In order to do that, I like to change the pourcentage number into a decimal number because I find it easier to use.
30% = 30 ÷ 100 = 0.3
Now that you have your decimal number, you need to multiply 0.3 by 40 to find out the number of students that 30% represents :
0.3 × 40 = 12
Which means that 12 students out of 40 chose soccer!
⓶ You now need to calculate what ⅕ of 40 students represents. Again, in order to do that, I like to change the fraction into a decimal number because I find it easier to use.
⅕ = 1 ÷ 5 = 0.2
Now that you have your decimal number, you need to multiply 0.2 by 40 to find out the number of students that â…• represents :
0.2 × 40 = 8
Which means that 8 students out of 40 chose football!
â“· Now all you have left to do is subtract the number of students who chose football from the number of students who chose soccer :
12 - 8 = 4
So to answer your question : "How many more students chose soccer than football?"
→ There are 4 more students who chose soccer rather than football!
I really hope this helps, if there’s anything just let me know! ☻
