to find the value of x first you need to combine like terms on both sides;

x - 2 -2x = 3 -x + 4x

-x -2 = 3 + 3x

-x - 3x = 3 + 2

-4x = 5 (next do the inverse operation of x)

-x = 5/4   or   x = - 5/4

x -2 -2x = 3 -x+ 4x
⇒ (x -2x) -2= (-x+ 4x)+ 3 (combine like terms)
⇒ -x -2= 3x+ 3
⇒ -x -3x= 3+ 2
⇒ -4x= 5
⇒ x= 5/(-4)
⇒ x= -1 1/4

The final answer is -1 1/4~
